Who murdered Mychal Brown?
Mychal Brown, a 23-year-old male, was fatally shot on Buffalo's East Side on the evening of Tuesday, February 21, 2017. The incident occurred in the vicinity of Roma and East Delevan Avenues, where responding officers found Brown deceased at the scene.
The subsequent investigation by the Buffalo Police Department Homicide Squad led to the identification of two suspects. Brandon Jones, 24, and David Hunter, 23, both from Buffalo, were arrested in connection with the shooting. Jones was charged with one count of Murder in the Second Degree and one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree. Hunter was indicted on one count of Murder in the Second Degree, accused of being an accomplice in the killing.
Ultimately, both Jones and Hunter pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of Manslaughter in the First Degree. In January 2020, they were sentenced for their roles in Mychal Brown's death. An Erie County Court Judge sentenced both men to a determinate sentence of 20 years in prison, which will be followed by 5 years of post-release supervision. Both were sentenced as second violent felony offenders.
