In the late hours of a Saturday night in Savannah, Georgia, the life of a 30-year-old Black male, Asim Jelani Simmons, was tragically cut short. On October 25, 2025, just before 9:30 p.m., Savannah police were called to the 5000 block of Compton Road where they discovered Simmons suffering from a gunshot wound.
Emergency medical services were dispatched to the scene, and alongside police officers, they administered lifesaving measures in a desperate attempt to save him. Despite their efforts, Simmons succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Initially, authorities reported that an adult male had been the victim of a shooting, and it was not until the following Monday that the coroner formally identified him as Asim Simmons.
In the wake of the shooting, detectives with the Savannah Police Department launched a homicide investigation into Simmons's death. Authorities have appealed to the public for any information that might lead to a break in the case. They have encouraged anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact CrimeStoppers or to submit tips anonymously through the police department's mobile app.
To date, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, and investigators have not publicly identified any suspects. The circumstances surrounding the shooting and a potential motive remain unclear as the investigation continues. The case remains an open and active homicide investigation.
