In the afternoon of October 7, 2025, a burst of violence shattered the quiet of a Steelton, Pennsylvania neighborhood, leaving one man dead and his brother wounded. KenYatta Henry, a 26-year-old male, was fatally shot on the steps of the Phoenix Mini-Market on South 4th Street. The brazen daylight attack also left his brother, Nakeem McGraw, with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. A former football player for Steelton-Highspire, Henry was a beloved and well-known member of the community.
The shooting prompted a swift response from law enforcement and plunged the local community into a state of shock and mourning.
The investigation into the shooting quickly focused on a single suspect, 23-year-old Quadir Rameau. McGraw, despite his injuries, was able to identify Rameau, a former friend, as the assailant. Surveillance footage from the convenience store further corroborated Rameau's identity as the shooter. Investigators discovered that just before the shooting, Henry, his brother, and Rameau had been inside the market waiting for food and appeared to be acting normally. A search of Rameau's home later uncovered ammunition that matched the 9mm shell casings found at the crime scene.
Following the shooting, Rameau fled the area, sparking a manhunt. He reportedly texted his mother, admitting he had 'got into some trouble' and instructed her to lock the doors to her home. On October 13, 2025, Rameau surrendered to authorities in the Allentown area and was taken into custody. He was subsequently charged with a string of serious offenses, including first-degree homicide, attempted homicide, aggravated assault, and illegal possession of a firearm. After his surrender, Rameau was transported back to Dauphin County to face the charges brought against him. The community held a balloon release to honor Henry's memory, remembering him as a cherished son and exceptional athlete.
