Michael Dickens, a 53-year-old Black male from Raleigh, was shot just before midnight on Monday, October 13, 2025, in the 1800 block of New Bern Avenue near North Raleigh Boulevard. Officers responding around 11:40–11:45 p.m. found him with a gunshot wound; he was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died. A second victim from the same shooting arrived at a hospital shortly after with non-life-threatening injuries.
The scene stretched across a gas station and convenience store area where investigators marked evidence in the roadway.
By Friday, October 17, Raleigh police announced the arrest of a 16-year-old suspect in connection with the shooting. The teen is charged as an adult with murder; authorities did not release the suspect’s name and offered no details about how they identified the individual. The investigation remains active.
