In the early morning hours of Sunday, October 19, 2025, a family dispute in a Fern Creek, Kentucky, apartment complex escalated into a tragedy that claimed the life of 30-year-old Darryl Burnett Jr. The male victim was found by Louisville Metro Police at the Brentlinger Park apartments with gunshot wounds to his head and leg. He was transported to University of Louisville Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The ensuing investigation led to the swift arrest of two of Burnett's
own brothers. Darrel R. Burnett, 37, and Kiaira M. Paige, 36, were taken into custody in connection with the fatal shooting. According to police reports, the incident began with a physical altercation between Paige and Darryl Burnett Jr. During this fight, Paige allegedly shot his younger brother in the leg with a handgun.
The violence did not end there. Surveillance footage from the scene reportedly captured the moments that followed the initial shooting. The video evidence allegedly shows Darrel Burnett exiting the residence with a rifle and fatally shooting Darryl Burnett Jr. in the head. Both brothers were questioned by police and reportedly admitted to their roles in the events that led to their brother's death.
Following the arrests, Darrel Burnett was charged with murder, and Kiaira Paige was charged with second-degree assault. A judge set Darrel Burnett's bond at $500,000 and Paige's bond at $75,000.
