In the summer of 2015, a night of violence in Louisville, Kentucky, set in motion a chain of events that would ultimately claim the life of Gene Earl Cary, a 26-year-old Black male. On the evening of July 5th, Cary was on Quail Court, off Poplar Level Road, when he was struck by a single gunshot to the stomach. The initial aftermath of the shooting was a fight for survival.
