In the early morning hours of October 21, 2025, tragedy struck on the near south side of Indianapolis when 34-year-old Zachary Lillard, a male, was fatally shot. The incident unfolded around 5:45 a.m. in the 1600 block of East Tabor Street, near the intersection of East Raymond and Shelby streets. When officers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department arrived, they discovered a chaotic scene that began with a woman who had been shot seeking help.
The injured woman, who was
found in a car that had been struck by gunfire, was able to direct the police to an alley just north of Tabor Street. It was there that they found Zachary Lillard, who had sustained at least one gunshot wound. Despite the efforts of emergency responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The female victim was transported to a local hospital and was reported to be in stable condition, awake and breathing.
The investigation into Lillard's death is ongoing, and as of now, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified. Homicide detectives are actively working the case and have reached out to the community for assistance. They have urged anyone with information or possible video footage of the incident to come forward and contact the IMPD Homicide Office or Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana. The neighborhood where the shooting occurred has reportedly been the subject of numerous police calls in the years leading up to the incident, with residents expressing concern over ongoing issues at the specific address connected to the shooting.
