Erick Arthur Dopp, 45, male, was killed on the night of May 30, 2025, in Gilchrist on the Bolivar Peninsula. Deputies responded around 11:30 p.m. and found Dopp and his adult daughter, Wisdom Hall, shot to death outside a home; investigators said the violence began as a verbal argument that suddenly escalated. Authorities quickly named a suspect: 38-year-old Johnathan Findley of Pasadena. After the shooting, Findley fled in a white vehicle, triggering a multi-county pursuit. Chambers County deputies and Beaumont officers ultimately located his car on the I-10 service road near College Street in Beaumont. Before officers could take him into custody, Findley died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound inside the vehicle, ending the chase and leaving investigators to piece together a motive. As the suspect died by suicide, there were no arrests connected to Dopp's killing.
