Albert Devontae Roy, 29, a Black male, was shot and killed just after sunrise on June 4, 2025, outside a residence on the 6500 block of Ashby Point in the San Antonio–area suburb of Live Oak. Officers called to reports of multiple gunshots around 7:30 a.m. found Roy fatally wounded near the home. Police said early evidence suggested the attack was targeted rather than random, and the Texas Rangers were brought in to assist Live Oak detectives as they canvassed the neighborhood for
surveillance footage and witnesses.
Investigators soon focused on a small convoy seen on cameras that morning: four masked assailants dressed in black who arrived and fled using a stolen black-and-tan Ford pickup. The truck was abandoned nearby after the shooting. Detectives traced movements before and after the gunfire through license plate data and building security logs, including an entry at an apartment complex gate using a personal code linked to a local man, as well as videos capturing a red Dodge Caliber circling the area around the time of the killing.
By June 7, authorities had arrested 32-year-old Darius Gladney. He was charged with engaging in organized criminal activity—murder, accused of aiding the shooters’ getaway and helping dispose of the stolen truck. A judge set his bond at $300,000, and jail records showed he was later released on bail on June 18 while the broader investigation continued. Additional charges tied to child endangerment were also noted in court records, and police emphasized that more arrests could follow as they worked to identify the masked gunmen.
Officials publicly identified the victim as Albert Roy through the Bexar County Medical Examiner, and memorial pages later recorded his death as a San Antonio–area homicide on June 4. As of the most recent reports from local outlets in mid-June, Gladney remained the only person arrested; authorities had not announced charges against the shooters themselves, and they continued to seek tips from the community.
