Ricardo Cervera Jr., 53, a Hispanic/Latino male, was shot and killed on the morning of July 1, 2025, on the second-floor landing outside a room at the Flex Studios motel along Northwest Loop 410 near Culebra Road in San Antonio. Officers arrived just before 10 a.m. to find him with multiple gunshot wounds to the torso; despite life-saving efforts by emergency personnel, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
His death was later confirmed in funeral records noting he “was taken from us on July 1, 2025 in San Antonio, TX,” at age 53.
Witness accounts described arguing, shuffling, and then a woman’s cries for help moments before a burst of gunfire on the breezeway. Detectives quickly followed leads to a nearby home on Rita Avenue, where they found the victim’s vehicle and another possible suspect vehicle, set a perimeter, and treated the location as a criminal barricade while calling people out. Several individuals were temporarily detained and questioned; ultimately, they were released as the investigation refocused on a single arrested suspect.
Police identified the suspected shooter as the victim’s nephew, Richard Anthony Cervera, 25, who was detained less than 15 minutes after the shooting on Alamo Downs Parkway with blood on his clothing. He was arrested on a murder charge and booked into the Bexar County jail; court records reported by local media indicated he remained in custody with bail set at $200,000. The case drew wider attention because it occurred the same day as another, unrelated killing in which a nephew was charged with slaying his uncle elsewhere in the city.
