In the quiet neighborhood on the Northwest Side of San Antonio, the afternoon of December 8, 2025, was shattered by the sound of a gunshot that would irrevocably alter the lives of a family. Inside a home on Windstone Creek, four-year-old Josiah Cabral, a student at Henry Steubing Elementary School, was fatally wounded. Police received two calls, one from inside the house and another from outside, both reporting the tragic event that unfolded around 3 p.m.
Upon their arrival, officers
discovered a heart-wrenching scene. Josiah's father was desperately trying to render first aid to his young son. The boy, who was of Filipino descent, was quickly transported to a local hospital, but his injuries were too severe. He was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office would later confirm that Josiah died from a gunshot wound to the chest.
The only other people in the house at the time of the shooting were Josiah’s parents. Both his mother and father were taken into custody for questioning as the investigation into the circumstances of the shooting began. San Antonio Police Chief William McManus stated that a handgun was involved, but the specifics of how the shooting occurred remained unclear in the immediate aftermath.
The community was left reeling from the loss of such a young life. Northside Independent School District, where Josiah was a student, expressed its profound sadness and made grief counselors available to students and staff. While the investigation is ongoing, authorities have not yet announced any charges in connection with the tragic death of Josiah Cabral. The case remains an active investigation as police work to piece together the events that led to the death of the four-year-old boy.
