On March 7, 2025, 39-year-old Octavian Tave Estrada was fatally shot in a road rage incident at a Valero gas station near East Loop 1604 South and Highway 181 South in southeast Bexar County, Texas. Surveillance footage captured the events leading up to the shooting, showing Estrada, who was driving a white sedan, parking next to a Chevrolet truck hauling a trailer. Estrada then approached the truck, at which point a person inside fired shots, striking him in the chest.
Deputies arrived at the scene to find Estrada deceased.
Authorities quickly identified and arrested 34-year-old Sean Anthony Samaniego in connection with the shooting. Initially, Samaniego was charged with tampering with physical evidence, as he allegedly removed the trailer from his truck in an attempt to alter its appearance. However, after further investigation, his charge was upgraded to murder. According to an arrest affidavit, Samaniego claimed that Estrada had been brake-checking him while driving from Floresville to San Antonio. He also stated that a passenger in his truck, whom he referred to as "Money," was the one who fired the fatal shots. Despite this claim, investigators determined that "Money" was not present at the time of the shooting.
Following the incident, the Floresville community mourned the loss of Estrada, who was a well-known barber. Hundreds gathered outside The Town Barbershop to honor his life, sharing stories of his generosity and impact on those around him. Estrada was remembered as someone who mentored young barbers, provided free haircuts to those in need, and supported his community in various ways. His family, including his niece and nephew, expressed their grief and emphasized their focus on remembering him while authorities continued their investigation into the case.
