Sixteen-year-old Damon Jay McGee, a boy from Mesquite, was found shot just after midnight on July 28, 2025, inside a bedroom of a home on the 1500 block of Rusk Drive. An adult who lived there told police they heard gunfire and, upon opening the door, discovered both Damon and another 15-year-old boy wounded. Officers and paramedics rushed the teens to a local hospital; Damon McGee, who lived at the address, was pronounced dead, while the younger teen was listed in critical condition.
