In the summer of 2025, the life of 43-year-old Alice Otealia Watson was tragically cut short in a burst of violence on a Wednesday evening in Portsmouth, Virginia. On June 18th, just after 5:15 p.m., police were called to the 2100 block of Elm Avenue where they discovered two individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. One victim, 39-year-old Omar Tyron Evans, was pronounced dead at the scene. Alice Watson, the second victim, was rushed to a local hospital for treatment of her injuries, but she ultimately succumbed to them.
Alice, a beloved mother of five and a doting grandmother to four, was remembered for her radiant spirit and generous heart. Born in Portsmouth on November 29, 1981, she was a lifelong resident of the city. Those who knew her described her as a free-spirited soul with a sweet and kind nature, someone who would give you her heart if she could. Her death left a profound void in the lives of her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
In the wake of the double homicide, the Portsmouth Police Department's Major Crime Unit launched an investigation. Detectives identified two male suspects captured on surveillance video and have appealed to the public for any information that could lead to their identification and apprehension.
