On a summer afternoon in Richmond, Virginia, a family dispute escalated into a tragedy that claimed the life of 37-year-old Mario Swann on August 8, 2025. Responding to a call about a shooting at approximately 2:25 p.m., police officers arrived at an apartment building in the 1100 block of St. Paul Street. There, they discovered Swann unresponsive on a second-floor landing, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injury.
The medical examiner would later determine the official cause and manner of his death.
The investigation into the shooting quickly pointed to a domestic conflict. According to Swann's wife, Antoinette Swann, the fatal confrontation was with her own brother, 34-year-old Jerome Lucas. Jerome Lucas was subsequently charged with possession of a firearm by a felon and shooting into an occupied dwelling.
