In the early hours of a Friday morning in Portsmouth, Virginia, a dispute over loud music tragically escalated, leading to the death of 32-year-old Kiersten Renee Moore. On August 8, 2025, at approximately 1:20 a.m., Moore stepped outside of her home on Decatur Street to speak with her neighbor about the volume of his music. This confrontation took a fatal turn, shattering the quiet of the neighborhood.
Following the brief argument, the neighbor, identified as 33-year-old Larry Mitchell, shot and killed Moore. She was found by police officers unresponsive with a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene by medics. Friends and neighbors remembered Moore as a beautiful, talented, and hardworking person who was kind and would check in on others. One neighbor lamented that a senseless argument led to such a devastating loss.
Immediately after the shooting, Mitchell fled the scene in his vehicle.
