On the evening of May 26, 2025, in the quiet Cash community just outside Cheraw, South Carolina, tragedy struck at a local ballfield on Macedonia Church Road. Nineteen-year-old Tylis Isaac, a Black male, was fatally shot in the head. The violence of that evening did not end with Isaac; two other teenagers, a 16-year-old and an 18-year-old female, were also wounded by gunfire, both shot in the back.
Responding to a call around 7:58 p.m., Chesterfield County Sheriff's deputies arrived at
the scene to find the two injured girls. Simultaneously, other deputies intercepted a vehicle heading south on Highway 52 that was connected to the incident. Inside, they discovered Isaac suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. He was rushed to a hospital in Florence but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
Within days of the shooting, investigators made several arrests. Two eighteen-year-olds from Cheraw, Mystery Jason Delante Powe and Rayonta Rayvon Buchanan, were taken into custody. A seventeen-year-old juvenile was also arrested in connection with the fatal shooting. The charges brought against them were severe, including murder, three counts of attempted murder, and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. In a further development, three teenage girls were also charged as accessories before and after the fact to murder. The investigation continued as authorities worked to piece together the events that led to the death of Tylis Isaac and the injury of two others.
