In the summer of 2025, the life of 28-year-old Jordan K. Spencer was tragically cut short in a shooting that took place in North Memphis. The incident occurred on the evening of Saturday, June 14, 2025, in the parking lot of a convenience store located at 2032 Chelsea Avenue. When officers from the Memphis Police Department arrived at the scene at approximately 10:27 p.m., they discovered Spencer with gunshot wounds. He was quickly transported to Regional One Hospital for medical attention, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
An investigation into the shooting revealed that the individuals responsible had utilized two vehicles, which were seen on surveillance footage arriving at and departing from the scene of the crime. The footage also captured one of the gunmen entering the store shortly before the fatal shooting. Witnesses reported that Spencer and the suspect had been involved in a heated argument earlier in the day. Spencer's cousin, Antonio Frazier, described him as a hardworking individual who took on various jobs like cutting grass to earn money.
Following the incident, the Memphis Police Department announced an arrest in the case. A 17-year-old male was taken into custody and has since been charged with first-degree murder. The arrest was made after law enforcement, including the Auto Theft Task Force and the Shelby County Sheriff's BRAT team, were tracking a stolen Chevrolet Camaro and apprehended several individuals, one of whom was the teen suspect. As of early July 2025, the teenage suspect had not yet been bound over to be tried as an adult. The family of Jordan Spencer held a funeral service to celebrate his life on Saturday, July 5, 2025, at Macedonia M.B. Church.
