Myron Fulton, a 39-year-old man, was fatally shot on Harmon Street in Henderson, Tennessee, on the evening of June 15, 2025. Born on September 10, 1985, in Jackson, Tennessee, Fulton was a well-known figure in his community. He had been an exceptional athlete at Chester County High School, where he graduated in 2004, excelling in football, baseball, and basketball and setting a school record for the most rushing yards. A workplace injury in 2005 cut short his promising football career.
He later returned to his alma mater as an assistant football coach and study hall teacher. At the time of his death, he was employed as a car salesperson at Jones Motor Co. and had just purchased his dream car, a Dodge Scat Cat, two days prior. He was a father to three sons and a daughter.
On the night of his death, Henderson Police responded to reports of a shooting and discovered Fulton deceased at the scene. The individual responsible for the shooting had fled on foot. An investigation was promptly initiated by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, at the request of 26th Judicial District Attorney General Jody Pickens, in conjunction with the Henderson Police Department, the U.S. Marshals Service, the Chester County Sheriff's Office, and the Adamsville Police Department.
The investigation led authorities to identify Ashton Smith-Carter, born on January 27, 1970, as the person responsible for Fulton's death. Investigators also determined that two juveniles were present during the shooting incident. The day after the shooting, on June 16, 2025, Ashton Smith-Carter surrendered to the Adamsville police. He was arrested and subsequently booked into the Chester County Jail. Smith-Carter has been charged with First Degree Murder, Attempted First Degree Murder, and Reckless Endangerment with a Deadly Weapon Involved.
