In Henderson, Tennessee, on the evening of April 4, 2017, a verbal dispute tragically escalated, claiming the life of 36-year-old Lamar Anderson, a Black male. The incident occurred near the intersection of Baughn Street and Church Avenue, where an argument between Anderson and another individual turned violent. While sitting in his car, Anderson was shot multiple times.
Despite his injuries, Anderson managed to drive away from the scene before crashing his vehicle a short distance away. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Friends and family remembered him as a man who had dedicated himself to turning his life around for his young daughter. In the days following his death, the community gathered for a candlelight vigil to mourn their loss and honor his memory.
The investigation quickly identified Phillip Lee Williams Jr., 41 years old at the time, as the sole suspect in the shooting. After the incident, Williams fled the Henderson area, prompting a manhunt that lasted for several weeks. Law enforcement eventually located and apprehended him in St. Louis, Missouri, on May 3, 2017. Following his capture, Williams was extradited back to Tennessee to face legal proceedings. He was subsequently charged with first-degree murder in connection with Lamar Anderson's death.
