In the early morning hours of July 9, 2025, the community of Kingstree, South Carolina, was rocked by the violent death of 39-year-old Kenneth Nesmith. A Black/African American male, Nesmith was discovered inside a residence on Christopher Road with fatal gunshot wounds. The Williamsburg County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene shortly after 1 a.m., where deputies and emergency medical personnel made valiant efforts to save his life, but Nesmith ultimately succumbed to his injuries at the
home.
Investigators quickly determined that the shooting was a homicide. Evidence at the scene pointed to a home invasion, with clear signs of forcible entry on one of the doors. This suggested that one or more individuals had broken into the residence, leading to the fatal confrontation with Nesmith before fleeing the area. The Williamsburg County Coroner's Office officially identified Nesmith and scheduled an autopsy to be performed at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston to further investigate the circumstances of his death.
The news of Nesmith's killing sent ripples of concern through the Kingstree community, as it marked the second homicide in the area within the same week.
