Mycheal Edwards-Wallace, an 18-year-old male, was a celebrated athlete with a promising future ahead of him. A recent graduate of Kingstree High School, he had distinguished himself as the Male Athlete of the Year and was an accomplished offensive and defensive lineman. His talents on the football field earned him a spot on the roster of the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas, the nation's oldest high school all-star game.
He was preparing to embark on the next chapter of his life and football career as an incoming freshman at Newberry College.
On the evening of June 29, 2025, tragedy struck at the Kings Crossing Apartments on North Brooks Street in Kingstree, South Carolina. At approximately 8:16 p.m., police responded to reports of a shooting at the complex. Upon arrival, they discovered a chaotic scene with four individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. One victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Mycheal Edwards-Wallace was among the three victims transported to a nearby hospital for emergency medical treatment.
Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Mycheal Edwards-Wallace succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Another teenager, 16-year-old Edwin Cooper of Kingstree, also lost his life in the shooting. Two other individuals were wounded in the incident but survived. The Kingstree Police Department requested the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division to lead the investigation into the double homicide. As of the latest available reports, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, and authorities have not publicly identified any suspects. The investigation remains ongoing as the community mourns the loss of two young lives.
