Scottrell Juarez West, 37, a Black man, was discovered just after midnight on August 21, 2025, lying near the roadway along Ash Street in the Batesburg-Leesville area of Lexington County. Officers had been dispatched around 12:30 a.m. after reports of gunfire; despite attempts to render aid, he died at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds, according to an official police news release later that morning.
