In the late afternoon of June 23, 2025, the Crafton Heights neighborhood of Pittsburgh was shattered by the sound of gunfire. Isiah Brewer, an 18-year-old Black / African American male, was found unresponsive in the backyard of a residence on Middletown Road, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his chest and torso. Paramedics arrived at the scene and transported the young man to a local hospital in critical condition, but he succumbed to his injuries shortly after.
Brewer had recently graduated from the Commonwealth Charter Academy, and his life was cut tragically short just weeks after this milestone.
The investigation into Brewer's death began immediately, with police responding to a ShotSpotter alert indicating six gunshots just before 3:45 p.m. City cameras captured a vehicle speeding away from the scene, which officers later stopped near the West End Circle. Inside the vehicle, they discovered another man who had been shot in the leg; he was transported to a hospital in stable condition. Three other uninjured occupants of the car were taken to police headquarters for questioning.
In addition to the occupants of the vehicle, a juvenile male was seen fleeing the area on foot. He was taken into custody, and a firearm was recovered from him. Another 18-year-old, Jamar Porch, was also taken into custody after being seen running from the area. Porch is facing several gun-related charges, including carrying a firearm without a license, but has not been charged in connection with Brewer's death.
As of now, the investigation into Isiah Brewer's homicide is ongoing, and no one has been charged with his murder. Pittsburgh Public Safety officials have described the investigation as active, with detectives pursuing a number of leads in the hope of bringing those responsible to justice.
