Sergeant James Henry "Rip" Taylor, Jr., aged 42, was a dedicated officer of the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police. On September 22, 1995, while off-duty, he intervened when he and his daughter encountered a gang spraying graffiti at the intersection of Vassar Street and Grotto Street in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Tragically, Sergeant Taylor was shot and killed with his own weapon during the confrontation.
