In the Fordham Heights neighborhood of the Bronx, a Sunday evening turned tragic for 57-year-old Kevin Jennings. On May 18, 2025, at approximately 6:49 p.m., Jennings was sitting on his walker near the intersection of East 188th Street and Marion Avenue when gunfire suddenly erupted. An innocent bystander, he was struck in the head by a stray bullet.
A 34-year-old woman who was reportedly on her way to the supermarket was also caught in the crossfire, suffering a gunshot wound to her leg.
Emergency services arrived at the chaotic scene and transported both victims to St. Barnabas Hospital. While the female victim was listed in stable condition, Jennings was pronounced dead. His family remembered him as a quiet, generous man, with his niece describing him as a 'big teddy bear' who would give you anything he had. He was a regular visitor to the area, often stopping by to see friends.
The New York Police Department's 46th Precinct immediately launched a homicide investigation. Initially, there were no arrests, and the investigation was ongoing as police sought the public's help. They released surveillance images of the suspected gunman, who was seen in a hooded camouflage sweatshirt. The suspect reportedly fled the scene on foot, heading eastbound on East 188th Street.
Months later, on September 17, 2025, a breakthrough was made in the case. Police arrested 18-year-old Brandon Sullivan from the West Farms section of the Bronx in connection with the fatal shooting. He was subsequently charged with two counts of murder, one count of attempted murder, one count of manslaughter, one count of assault, and four counts of criminal possession of a weapon.
