In the borough of the Bronx, a 35-year-old man named Jose Garcia was fatally shot on the evening of January 6, 2022. The incident occurred inside a public housing apartment building located at 558 East 181st Street, which is part of the Monterey/Twin Parks Houses. Responding to a 911 call at approximately 6:44 p.m., police officers discovered Mr. Garcia lying in a ninth-floor hallway.
Emergency medical services were dispatched to the scene and found that he had sustained multiple gunshot
wounds to his torso. Paramedics rushed him to St. Barnabas Hospital in an effort to save his life, but his injuries proved too severe, and he was pronounced dead at the hospital. At the time of the incident, Mr. Garcia was a resident of the nearby Mt. Eden neighborhood.
In the days following the shooting, the New York City Police Department continued to investigate the circumstances surrounding Mr. Garcia's death. However, no immediate arrests were made in connection with the homicide.
