In what began as a dispute between acquaintances, 30-year-old Savon Shabazz Miller, a Black male, was shot and killed on the evening of Thursday, August 7, 2025, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The fatal encounter took place at an apartment complex located in the 5100 block of N. Brookline Ave. Miller, originally from Warner Robins, Georgia, had relocated to Oklahoma City to live with his girlfriend after having spent some time in Las Vegas.
He was expected to return home to Georgia the day after he was killed.
Earlier on the day of the shooting, an altercation occurred between Miller and 22-year-old Talor Brannon. According to Miller's mother, Brannon, who was allegedly intoxicated, attempted to break into Miller's apartment. Miller called the police to de-escalate the situation, and no charges were filed at that time. Later, Miller posted on social media about having been in a physical confrontation with someone he described as drunk. The situation tragically escalated when Talor Brannon returned to the apartment complex with his 24-year-old brother, Nathaniel Brannon. At approximately 7:34 p.m., police were called back to the scene for a reported shooting. They discovered Miller in the courtyard with multiple gunshot wounds; he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following the shooting, an investigation led to the swift arrest of the two brothers. Talor Brannon was taken into custody shortly after officers arrived. His brother, Nathaniel Brannon, was arrested later. Talor Brannon was charged with first-degree murder and first-degree burglary. Nathaniel Brannon faced charges of first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. State records indicated that Nathaniel had been recently released from a split incarceration and probation arrangement.
Miller's mother described her son as a kind person who was not a fighter and was friends with everyone. She expressed her grief and frustration, stating that she learned of her son's death from a neighbor at the scene, not from law enforcement. She believes the tragedy was preventable and has left two families devastated. A GoFundMe was established to help with Miller's memorial expenses.
