Stephen George Cox, a 34-year-old White male, was fatally shot on Thursday, August 14, 2025, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, following a dispute that escalated to violence. The incident occurred in the morning, before 11:30 a.m., in the Turley area of north Tulsa at a residence near 1532 E. 67th St. N. Authorities have described the altercation as a disagreement between individuals who were acquainted with one another.
Witnesses at the scene reported that Cox had accused a younger acquaintance,
24-year-old Jovohn Kadavion Blanke, of theft. This accusation led to a heated confrontation that tragically ended in gunfire. Blanke is alleged to have shot Cox during the argument. At the time of the shooting, another man who attempted to intervene was injured by shattering glass when bullets struck a nearby vehicle. His injuries were not life-threatening.
Law enforcement was dispatched to the scene, and upon their arrival, they took Jovohn Kadavion Blanke into custody without incident. Following the shooting, Stephen George Cox was transported to a medical facility, but he succumbed to his injuries. The investigation was subsequently reclassified as a homicide.
Jovohn Kadavion Blanke was booked into the Tulsa County Jail. In light of Cox's death, the charges against Blanke were upgraded to include first-degree murder, shooting with intent to kill, and possession of a firearm after a former conviction. He was held without bond.
