In the pre-dawn hours of August 21, 2016, the life of 25-year-old Curtis Hergenrother, also known to some as Corbin Tyler, was tragically cut short in his Tulsa, Oklahoma, apartment. A male, Curtis was fatally wounded when a gunman fired through an opening in his door at the Somerset Park at Union Apartments around 4:45 a.m. The sudden and violent nature of his death left friends and family reeling, and set in motion a homicide investigation that would soon uncover a dark connection to
organized crime.
The investigation into Hergenrother's murder led Tulsa police to identify Cory Lee Kuebler as a suspect. Investigators were aided by enhanced video footage which proved to be a significant break in the case. Kuebler, who claimed affiliations with the Irish Mob, was subsequently arrested. His arrest brought to light a wider web of violent criminal activity, as he was also implicated in the murder of another individual, Casey Adkins, in a separate incident. The string of violent events and Kuebler's ties to a known gang painted a grim picture of the circumstances surrounding Hergenrother's death, suggesting it was part of a larger pattern of gang-related violence.
Faced with the evidence against him and the possibility of a death sentence, Cory Lee Kuebler chose to enter into a plea agreement. He pleaded guilty to the murder of Curtis Hergenrother, a decision that would spare him from capital punishment but ensure he would be held accountable for his actions.
