On a cold winter evening in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the life of 41-year-old Michael David Johnson was tragically cut short. On January 5, 2022, Johnson and a friend had just arrived at his home near Admiral Place and Harvard Avenue. As they pulled into the driveway around 10:30 p.m., three individuals approached them, sparking an argument. The confrontation escalated quickly and violently when one of the individuals, later identified as Carl Couch, fatally shot Johnson in the head.
Emergency
services were called to the scene, and Michael David Johnson was rushed to a local hospital. Despite the efforts of medical staff, he succumbed to his injuries. The Tulsa Police Department immediately launched an investigation into the shooting. Detectives began questioning witnesses and gathering evidence from the scene at 41 N. Florence Ave.
The investigation led to the identification of two suspects. On Monday, following the Wednesday night shooting, police questioned 36-year-old Carl Couch. Based on their investigation, he was arrested and booked on a charge of first-degree murder. Another man, 47-year-old Jeremy York, was also arrested in connection with the crime and charged with accessory to murder.
In October of 2023, Carl Couch admitted in court that he had shot and killed Michael Johnson. He was subsequently sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the murder.
