Jakari Townsend, a 26-year-old Black/African American man, was shot on the evening of September 16, 2025, on Syracuse’s South Side and died of his wounds. Around 8:04 p.m., police responding to a ShotSpotter alert found Jakari Townsend, male, 26, down outside J & B Grocery on the 400 block of Bellevue Avenue with a gunshot wound to the chest; a second victim, a 25-year-old man, had multiple wounds to the torso and shoulder.
