On the evening of September 11, 2025, a burst of gunfire shattered the peace on the 100 block of Monmouth Avenue in Asbury Park, New Jersey, leaving a family and community to grapple with a familiar pain. Tyshan Small, a 35-year-old man, was fatally struck in the back and pronounced dead at the scene. Another man was also injured during the shooting, though his wounds were not considered life-threatening.
