In the early morning hours of June 28, 2025, a violent disturbance erupted in a residential neighborhood of East Kansas City, Missouri. Just after 2:00 a.m., local law enforcement officers were dispatched to the intersection of East 24th Street and Lister Avenue following urgent reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, first responders directed their attention to a parking lot at the corner of the intersection, where they discovered an unresponsive individual suffering from gunshot wounds.
The victim was identified as Antonio Cordan Jackson, a 40-year-old male who had been in the area when the shooting occurred.
Emergency medical personnel arrived swiftly to render aid and transported Jackson to a nearby hospital for trauma care. Despite the life-saving efforts of the medical team, he was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival. Jackson, a dedicated employee at Wyco Manufacturing and a fervent 'ride or die' fan of the Kansas City Chiefs, was remembered by his community as a devoted family man. He left behind a fiancé, stepchildren, and grandchildren, along with a legacy of being a loving son and brother who brought laughter and light to those around him.
The violence that claimed Jackson's life also affected three other men at the scene. While officers were securing the area, they were notified of additional victims. One injured man arrived at a hospital in a private vehicle, while another fled to a nearby residence on Chelsea Avenue before being transported by ambulance. A third surviving victim was located near 19th and Oak and was subsequently taken to a hospital. All three of the wounded men were treated for what were described as non-life-threatening injuries and were in recovery following the incident.
Homicide detectives and crime scene investigators remained at the location throughout the day, canvassing the neighborhood for witnesses and processing evidence to reconstruct the events leading up to the gunfire.
