On a Sunday evening, the 22nd of June, 2025, in Greenwood, Mississippi, the life of a 24-year-old Black/African American woman named Keyara McCline was tragically cut short. The events unfolded in the parking lot of the No Way Jose restaurant located on West Park Avenue, between 8:45 and 9:00 p.m. McCline was standing beside another person when a car was captured on security footage backing up. A passenger then exited the vehicle and opened fire.
Emergency services were called, and McCline was rushed to the nearby Greenwood Leflore Hospital. Despite the efforts of medical staff, she succumbed to her gunshot wounds later that night. Another woman, who was 26 years old, was also injured during the shooting but was expected to make a full recovery. The motive for the shooting was not immediately made public by the authorities.
In the days following the fatal shooting, two individuals turned themselves in to the police. The suspects were identified as a 17-year-old and a 19-year-old. The younger suspect was named as James Robinson of Greenwood. He was subsequently charged with murder and aggravated assault in connection with the death of Keyara McCline and was booked into the Leflore County Jail. The name of the 19-year-old suspect and any charges against him were not immediately released by investigators as the community began to mourn the sudden and violent loss of a young life.
