In the winter of 2018, the life of 15-year-old Robert Love Jr. was cut tragically short in Greenwood, Mississippi. On the evening of February 17th, Love was at the Brazil Homes apartments when he was shot multiple times. A talented athlete, known for his skills on the basketball court, his death sent ripples through the community. His family described him as a funny and athletic young man.
The investigation into the shooting led authorities to an 18-year-old Greenwood High School
student, Tashun Lott. He was arrested at school by Leflore County sheriff's deputies and charged with first-degree murder in connection with Love's death. The arrest was reportedly made based on an eyewitness affidavit. At the time of his arrest for the murder charge, Lott was already out on a felony bond for a separate aggravated assault charge.
Authorities believe that Love was specifically targeted in the shooting. His death was thought to be potentially connected to an earlier shooting incident at the Greenwood Country Club. Investigators pointed to a possible conflict between two rival groups as a backdrop to the violence. Love himself had been previously arrested and charged in connection with the country club shooting. On the night he was killed, however, it was reported that Love was unarmed. Both Robert Love Jr. and the individual charged in his death were students in the local school system.
