In the early morning hours of June 9, 2024, the life of 39-year-old Kennoris Cortez Stigler, a Black male, was cut short by gunfire in Greenwood, Mississippi. Around 2 a.m., officers from the Greenwood Police Department were dispatched to the vicinity of McLean Street after receiving reports of shots being fired. Their investigation led them to Madison Avenue, where they discovered Stigler suffering from gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical personnel arrived at the scene and pronounced
Stigler dead at 2:11 a.m. The Leflore County Coroner, Debra Sanders, made an official declaration of his death at 3:05 a.m. Despite the ongoing investigation by the Greenwood Police Department, there have been no public announcements regarding any arrests or the identification of any suspects in connection with the shooting. Authorities have not released further details about potential leads or the circumstances that led to the fatal incident.
This was not the first time Kennoris Cortez Stigler had been a victim of gun violence. In 2015, he was wounded in a drive-by shooting that claimed the life of another individual, D'Alandis Love. Stigler, along with two other victims, survived that earlier attack, which ultimately resulted in the conviction and sentencing of three individuals in 2017. The community continues to await answers in Stigler's unresolved murder.
