On June 22, 2025, in Hazlehurst, Mississippi, 20-year-old Anthony Slay, a Black/African American male, was struck by gunfire during a drive-by shooting on Nelson Drive around 10:30 p.m. Responding officers found two males with multiple gunshot wounds; both were rushed for treatment, and 20-year-old Anthony Slay, a male from Hazlehurst, later died of his injuries while the second victim, a 16-year-old male, was listed in stable condition.
