In the early morning hours of February 23, 2022, the community of Hazlehurst, Mississippi, was disturbed by the sound of gunshots. A 14-year-old Black male named Jamarion Williams was later discovered by a passerby at the intersection of Maple Street and Longwood Street. He had sustained gunshot wounds to his head and leg and was pronounced dead at the scene.
