On the Fourth of July in Jackson, Mississippi, a domestic dispute tragically escalated, leaving 45-year-old Adrione Triggs, a Black male, dead from gunshot wounds. The incident, which took place in the afternoon on the 1100 block of AME Logan Street, led to a swift investigation by the Jackson Police Department. Triggs was transported to a local hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
Investigators quickly identified Triggs's 35-year-old girlfriend, Aziza Young, as the
primary suspect in his death. According to law enforcement statements, the shooting was not an act of self-defense. Witnesses reported that following the sound of gunshots, Young was seen attempting to move Triggs's body. She then reportedly fled the scene in his white 2009 Honda Accord, prompting police to issue warrants for her arrest on charges of murder and auto theft.
Three days after the fatal shooting, on July 7, Aziza Young was taken into custody in Adams County, approximately 90 miles away from Jackson. Her arrest occurred after her attorney informed authorities of her location at her home in Natchez. Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade described the killing as 'calculated,' a sentiment echoed by other regional outlets. Following her arrest, Young's bond was set at $1 million for the murder charge and an additional $25,000 for the auto theft charge. She is expected to be returned to Jackson to face these charges.
