On December 27, 2016, 33-year-old Terrell Bruce, an African American male from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was fatally shot while driving his Ford Expedition in the West Mount Airy neighborhood. The incident occurred around 12:30 p.m. on West Walnut Lane near Parkline Drive. Bruce was discovered unresponsive in his vehicle, which had crashed into another car and overturned. Emergency responders found that he had suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene.
