In what was initially investigated as a fatal car accident, the death of 41-year-old Amanda Liston of Crenshaw, Mississippi, is now being investigated as a homicide. On July 26, 2025, Mississippi Highway Patrol troopers responded to a single-vehicle crash on State Highway 3 in Panola County. They discovered a 2015 Ford F-150 that had left the roadway and struck a tree.
The driver, identified as Amanda Liston, was found inside the truck with fatal injuries.
Upon further investigation, it was determined that Liston had sustained gunshot wounds. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation took over the case and confirmed that her death was a result of the shooting. It remains unclear whether the gunshots occurred before or after the crash.
On August 18, 2025, the U.S. Marshals Service, acting on a warrant from the MBI, arrested 36-year-old Cortrell Motley in connection with Liston's death. Motley has been charged with first-degree murder. Authorities have not yet released a motive for the shooting or elaborated on the relationship between Motley and Liston. The investigation is ongoing.
