John Montgomery, 46, a Black/African American man from Canton, Mississippi, died from a gunshot wound on July 29, 2025. He was found in a yard along Hudson Road just off Highway 16 after the Madison County Sheriff’s Department received a call at about 7:40 p.m., according to spokesman Heath Hall. The victim, identified by authorities as John Montgomery, was pronounced dead at the scene as deputies secured the area and opened a homicide investigation.
