In the early morning hours of May 3, 1973, a neighbor noticed smoke billowing from the apartment of 19-year-old Barbara Jean Kirk in Las Vegas, Nevada. Breaking through a window, the neighbor pulled Barbara from the burning residence. The subsequent investigation revealed a brutal crime had been committed before the fire was intentionally set to conceal the evidence. Barbara, a female, had been sexually assaulted and then strangled to death.
