In the late summer of 2025, the life of 33-year-old Christian Matthew Storey was tragically cut short in Brandon, Mississippi. On the evening of August 28th, police responded to a 911 call at a residence on Gayden Street. Inside, they discovered Mr. Storey, who had been fatally shot. The investigation quickly pointed to a suspect, 35-year-old Matthew Brian Kidd, also of Brandon, who was identified as the perpetrator in this violent act. Authorities immediately launched a search for Kidd, cautioning the public that he was to be considered armed and dangerous.
The investigation into Christian Storey's death soon revealed a darker and more extensive string of violence. Evidence emerged linking Matthew Brian Kidd to another homicide that had occurred just a day earlier in Rankin County. The victim in that case was identified as William Earl Morris. With Kidd now a suspect in two murders, a multi-agency manhunt was initiated to bring him into custody and prevent any further harm to the community. The search concluded when Kidd was located and apprehended at a Rodeway Inn in Brandon, a capture made possible through the collaborative efforts of Rankin County and Brandon law enforcement.
Following his arrest, Matthew Brian Kidd was charged with the murders of both Christian Storey and William Earl Morris. The motives for these two killings have not been publicly disclosed. In a subsequent court appearance, Kidd pleaded guilty to the murder of Christian Storey and the capital murder of William Earl Morris. He was sentenced to life in prison for each count, to be served concurrently, without the possibility of parole, ensuring he would spend the remainder of his life incarcerated for his crimes.
