In the early hours of June 15, 2025, a fatal shooting in Duluth's Central Hillside neighborhood resulted in the death of 37-year-old Cody Thomas Telega, a White / Caucasian male. The incident occurred just after 1:30 a.m. near the entrance of his apartment building at 117 East 3rd Street. Responding officers found Telega with multiple gunshot wounds. They administered aid at the scene, and he was then rushed to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Another man who was present at the scene was also fired upon but was not injured.
Within hours of the shooting, law enforcement officers located two suspects south of the city along Interstate 35 near Cloquet. Antonio Duryea Hendon, 35, and Amber Michele Rose Walker, 41, were taken into custody and booked into the St. Louis County Jail. Hendon faced preliminary charges of second-degree murder and first-degree assault, while Walker was held on a preliminary count of aiding and abetting second-degree murder. Authorities indicated that all individuals involved were known to each other and that they were investigating a prior incident that may have led to the deadly confrontation.
Further investigation revealed a connection between the homicide and a home-invasion robbery that had occurred at the same apartment just hours before the shooting. Around 10:30 p.m. on June 14, two masked men reportedly forced their way into the residence and robbed a man inside while Telega was not present. On June 20, police announced the arrests of two Duluth men in connection with this robbery: Lance Houle, 37, and Steve Shotley, 37. They were jailed on pending charges that included first-degree aggravated robbery, with Shotley also facing counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm and a felony domestic charge. Investigators publicly linked the robbery to Telega's killing, though the specific nature of the connection was not immediately detailed.
