Kenlanda Burns, a 35-year-old Black woman from Yazoo City, was found shot to death in the early morning hours of September 23, 2025, at the Willow Wood Apartments on Grady Avenue. A cafeteria worker for the Yazoo City Municipal School District and the mother of school-aged children, she was discovered after officers responded around dawn, and news of her killing rippled quickly through the community and her school district.
