On May 21, 2020, at approximately 12:45 a.m., Birmingham Police Department officers responded to a shooting at 8533 3rd Avenue North in the East Lake community. Upon arrival, they discovered 38-year-old Sanquez Anton Giddens lying on the ground with apparent gunshot wounds. Giddens was transported to UAB Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
