On the evening of June 8, 2025, Alyson Elien, a 23-year-old Black male from Seaford, Delaware, was found with a gunshot wound to his head in the driveway of a residence in the 900 block of Camelia Street in Cambridge, Maryland. Emergency responders attempted life-saving measures before transporting him to the University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Cambridge, where he was ultimately pronounced dead.
The investigation into Elien's death quickly gained momentum, aided by
surveillance footage from the area. This footage revealed a disturbing scene: after Elien was shot and lay dying, several individuals reportedly gathered around him, not to offer aid, but to steal his belongings from his person and his vehicle. Investigators recovered a handgun at the scene, which was later identified as a stolen Beretta 9mm.
Within two days of the shooting, the Cambridge Police Department made its first arrest. On June 10, 15-year-old Jakai Wilson of Cambridge was taken into custody during a traffic stop. He was charged as an adult with a slate of serious offenses, including first- and second-degree murder, conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, assault, and various firearm offenses.
The investigation continued to unfold over the following weeks, leading to the arrests of three more suspects. On July 7, police arrested 18-year-old Nisiah Jeremiah Fletcher of Cambridge, who also faces charges including first-degree murder and conspiracy. Later in July, a fourth suspect, 18-year-old Kah'Zion Karim of Havre de Grace, was arrested in connection with the homicide. In early August, authorities announced the arrest of a fourth individual, 20-year-old Ja'sire Kane of Cambridge, on an extensive list of charges that included first-degree murder, conspiracy, firearm offenses, and armed robbery.
