In the early hours of a Sunday morning in Cambridge, Maryland, the life of 20-year-old A’Corie Young was tragically cut short. On April 10, 2022, gunshots shattered the quiet of the 800 block of Fairmount Drive. When officers from the Cambridge Police Department arrived at the scene shortly after 3 a.m., they discovered Young suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite the immediate response, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The case was soon handed over to the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit to lead the investigation into the young man's death.
Investigators quickly determined that the shooting was not a random act of violence, bringing a small measure of relief to a community shaken by the event. As Maryland State Police crime scene technicians meticulously processed the area for evidence, detectives began the work of canvassing the neighborhood and interviewing potential witnesses. Their efforts were aimed at piecing together the events that led to the fatal shooting. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore later confirmed through an autopsy that Young's death was a homicide resulting from the gunshot wounds. The investigation was a collaborative effort, with the Cambridge Police Department and the Dorchester County State's Attorney's Office providing additional support.
Months later, in August 2022, the investigation culminated in the arrests of two suspects. The U.S. Marshal's Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force apprehended 25-year-old Raykquon Dijon Molock in Frederick, Maryland. Following his arrest, a second suspect, 22-year-old Tamar Jawayne Collins of Cambridge, was also taken into custody. Both men faced a litany of serious charges.
Molock was charged with first-degree murder, two counts of attempted first-degree murder, two counts of first-degree assault, and two counts of reckless endangerment. Collins faced similar charges, including first-degree murder, two counts of attempted first-degree murder, two counts of first-degree assault, and two counts of reckless endangerment. Additionally, Collins was charged with illegal possession of a handgun and illegal possession of a loaded handgun. Following their arrests, Molock was held at the Frederick County Detention Center awaiting extradition to Dorchester County, while Collins was transported to the Dorchester County Detention Center to await his initial appearance before a District Court Commissioner.
